Teaching Artist Statement

I have taught and mentored in a variety of settings over a period of decades. My specialty is to encourage students to work from their own level of perception and awareness.  My teaching involves dramatic performance which means you are likely to find students up and out of their seats in costume interacting enthusiastically with one another and embodying fictional characters inspired by literature and history.  My classroom environment is not a traditional setting and encourages students to use action and imagination to explore curricular connections. I believe in integrative teaching as a powerful motivator for learners to achieve in other area of the curriculum.

In recent years I have worked as a substitute for the Montessori school, led kids camps at Penland School of Crafts, led summer camps for Yancey County 4-H, Camp Spring Creek, have initiated programs for Carolina Day school, Claxton Elementary, Evergreen Charter School, Camp Sequoia.

Areas of Interest

My main areas of interest have been clown arts and photographic documentation. My cross cultural pursuits encompass dance, singing, storytelling, and the world of nature. To me, humor has become a focus as a way to empower students to enjoy the learning process.

True is available to sub in Mitchell County.  She specializes in creating a magical and dynamic learning environment.
