Kerstin Davis subbed for Denise Curtis at Bowman Middle School. Students in two of her classes have been studying Walt Whitman. In those classes, Kerstin worked with the students to create props to go along with Whitman’s O Captain! My Captain! They then used those props in a dramatic reading of the poem.
In her last block students have been studying the Underground Railroad. Kerstin taught students about some of the secret codes used in quilts to guide runaway slaves to safety. The students then made collographs of quilt squares from historic Underground Railroad quilts.
